Deaux-Nuts: Fresh Donuts, With a Hint o’ New Orleans

Best donuts ever.

If you grew up in New Orleans ~ Gentilly, more specifically ~ you’ll have your opinion on who made the best donuts in the city. We Gentillians were pretty spoiled for choice when it came to bakeries: some people loved McKenzie’s, others swore by Lawrence’s, and, outside of Gentilly, there were the delicious beignets at Café Du Monde. Finally, most people who grew up in Gentilly still rave about the donuts sold out of a neighborhood garage on Verbena Street.

When faced with this, choosing one is difficult.

Fast-forward to present. We recently discovered Camellia City Deaux-Nuts not far from where we live and their donuts are sublime. We don’t get them very often, but since it was Chris’s birthday over the weekend, we decided to splurge for a dozen; they never fail to disappoint. Yesterday’s selection consisted of Boston Cream {my favorite of all}, Chocolate {filled with raspberry}, Powdered Sugar {filled with raspberry}, Glazed {filled with custard}, and Maple covered glaze. Deaux-Nuts are freshly made daily and worth raving about.

I find that all the “best” places are little known, small town, locally owned businesses, due to better customer service and more attention to detail. I always believe in supporting local businesses over corporations and feel fortunate to live in a place that’s home to many such businesses. You’ll find that as we review more places, we will choose only those that are off the beaten path. Deaux-Nuts definitely qualifies as a “Best of the Best” business and it boasts a huge choice of O-M-G delicious donuts, catering to every preference. Their hours are limited ~ Wednesday – Sunday from 5:00am – noon. I recommend getting there a bit on the early side because they sell out really fast. They’re located on Gause Blvd, East, Slidell.

Have you had Deaux-Nuts? Which is your favorite? If you live elsewhere, do you have a favorite bakery or donut shop? What makes it stand out from the rest? Tell us about it so that we can visit if we happen to be in the area during our travels {and possibly write a review} and taste for ourselves.

Until  next time…
