Who We Are

Hiya! My name is Carol. I am a native New Orleanian and Chris was born a month before his family moved to the Crescent City when he was only a month old. We both had the privilege of growing up in a wonderful part of New Orleans referred to as Gentilly {or “Chilly Gentilly” as we Gentillians called it}.  We attended separate schools that were in close proximity and associated as “brother/sister” schools within the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Our history goes back to when we met {through a mutual friend} in 1980. We were 16 at the time and, after a whirlwind romance that lasted 2 weeks, we drifted apart. Thirty-five years later, we reconnected {through the same mutual friend} and realized that we really were meant to be together. If you’d like to read a more detailed version of the story, you’re most welcome to go to {one of} my other blogs, Writeful Mind and read about it there.

For 6 years, “we” were 3 ~ my son, daughter, and me; now, “we” are 5. Chris officially joined our family earlier this year when he moved in and then our granddaughter arrived exactly on her due date in early July. We now have a full house and there’s never a dull moment.

Fleur de Cee

Deciding on a name for our business wasn’t an easy task. Not only does it have to be original {read:available to register}, it also has to be uniquely memorable and reflect the business, its products, and its owners. We struggled. We brainstormed. We became slightly frustrated. We wanted something that identified with us, as well as our roots. The fleur de lis is a well-known symbol in New Orleans. “Fleur” means flower and lis means “lily”. “Cee” incorporates our shared first initial, while keeping the symbolism associated with our city. Additionally, our granddaughter’s name is Lily, so it adds more meaning to our logo!

What I Do

I am a writer, sharing my experiences to help other people. I am an advocate for the empowerment of women in abusive situations and co-founded Café Sanctuary, an outreach program that helps connect abuse victims with the resources they need to recognize abuse, escape their situations, rebuild their lives, learn to live independently and heal their spirits. I also write to help others deal with teen-related issues {self-harm, depression, anxiety, teen pregnancy}, grief, and starting over after major life events. I’ve been through so many things and I want to support others. As an aside, I’m also a website developer and social media manager, with some experience in graphics design.

What Chris Does

He’s a photographer with an eye for captivating images. Although he has extensive knowledge of cameras, he wants to explore and show how to take awesome pictures using his iPhone 6s Plus camera. {We will post a link to his blog when he has a chance to set it up.} He’s also a salesman who understands the importance of great customer service. For years, he owned a business selling cleaning supplies and he learned his products backward and forward, upside down and inside out so that his clients always bought the product they needed. He always looked for ways to save his clients money and, as you can imagine, his honesty was always appreciated. It’s more than just business for him; he really does care about clients!

What We’re Doing

In addition to selling some really cool items on the online store, we’re planning a book project that will showcase Chris’s photographs accompanied by our stories of nostalgia {more details later}. We’re both very excited about the opportunity to revisit {and reminisce about} our old haunts as we compile content for our book. Additionally, we will continue to support and encourage each other through our individual projects ~ photography, writing, helping others.

Interests / Hobbies

As far as I’m concerned, there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do. When I’m not writing or spending time with my family, I enjoy watching old shows, movies, and those I follow on YouTube. Music is a huge part of my life and, although it seems cliché to say that I have “eclectic tastes”, I absolutely do; my playlists consist of music across several decades as well as genres {my favorite is Classic Rock or 80’s, but I listen to classical, hip hop, pop, chart}. Coffee with my family and friends is also one of my favorite ways to pass the time. I’m heavily into social media to keep in touch with friends who live around the globe and I only recently picked up an interest in bullet journaling.

Chris is also a big fan of music, his favorite genre being progressive rock. He’s always been into photography and he is always watching documentaries to learn new things. We enjoy watching the old shows together; we’re only 3 months apart in age so we watched a lot of the same shows growing up. He and I like playing MMORPG’s, too, and we’re looking forward to the new World of Warcraft expansion as well as seeing the movie! He’s into coffee as I am and we both like going to flea markets, thrift stores, antique stores and consignment shops to browse. We love traveling and we eventually want to do a drive down Route 66 {bucket list item, described in detail in a post I wrote awhile back}. Life is all about exploring new things and going on adventures. Right?
